The last week or so has been full of "firsts" for the year. Last Saturday Sophie and I both ran our first race of the year at the Chisago Lakes 5K (and kid's race for Sophie, of course).
And then Monday I ran my first speed workout of the year. Or tried. It was snow/sleeting - let's just call it sneeting - and freaking cold. At one point I screamed "this makes me want to murder someone!" Public service announcement: do not cross me during winter hard workouts. Apparently I get violent.
Friday I ran my first double digit run of the year - a 10 miler as my first long run for Fargo training. Although the run was much better than Monday's speed work, it was still cold and windy. The side of my face exposed to the wind for four straight miles was completely numb. I had trouble forming words.
Friday night and Saturday I warmed up with a fun girls' weekend away - so much fun! I did fit in some exercise (laps in a hotel pool counts, right?). Tonight was supposed to be speed work again but, wait for it, it was freaking cold and windy. So I opted for 45 minutes on the bike trainer and 20 minutes of pilates. Which is sort of like 800 repeats. Or not.

Don't sell yourself short - you're keeping very active in weather that would cause lots of people (me) to hibernate until spring. Yay for you! Ummmm, but please don't murder anybody... :P
sounds like a lot of fun to me!
I don't blame you... your weather is way too cold to run outside. Hey, at least you got a work out in!! Love the pic of you and your daughter finishing the race - very cute!!
It's getting hard to keep active in this weather!! It's supposed to be a bitter cold week here this week, and that means running on the SUCKmill-I can relate to the "wanting to murder someone" attitude!! Oh well, the sweet smells of Lambeau Field will be here soon!!!!
okay that picture is seriously so awesome. best ever.
nice 10miler!!
it was -8 this morning on my way to the pool for a 5am swim. That is so wrong!
D
Laps, bike and pilates definitely counts as hard workouts! You rock! Love the pic of you and your daughter :)
I've never taken the step to speed workouts. Impressive!
"Sneeting" - nice!
Sounds like a good year so far! Sophie is as cute as ever!
Speed work in the winter SUCKS. The footing is bad, the snow stings and the wind is life-sucking.
Congrats on the firsts!!
You rock - 10 miles in this cold weather? Impressive!!!
Fun idea to post about the new firsts of the year...my first race is this coming weekend! Are you running it too? (Valentine's Day 5K @ Lake Harriet)
ugh, i get that same face-numbness too! i really need to start figuring out more wind friendly routes around town or behind trees...or even better--underground :)
I only tend to get "violent" when I'm driving. Darn road rage!
Your training seems to be going well so far for Fargo. Keep it up! :)
Hey that looks like a great weekend to me! Kudos on the kids run. I got get one of those kid things to participate. LOL!
BTW - you are a winner! Email me your address and swing by my blog. :) congrats!
