One Week

By this time next week, I'll be rocking the recovery socks at my Grandma and Grandpa's, basking in the glow of finshing my fourth marathon. At least that's the plan. I had a good taper week this week:

Monday: 3 miles easy (am), 6 miles hills (pm)
Tuesday: 1 hr kettlebells (more leg work than I would have liked!)
Wednesday: 1000 m. swim
Thursday: 5 miles
Saturday: 8 miles
Sunday: 20 minutes yoga

I've got an easy week planned this week - a couple of runs, a bike ride, a swim. No kettlebells.

As part of my taper madness (right along with making a giant batch of chocolate chip cookies), I'v been obsessing about my training. Did I do enough? Am I as prepared for this race as I was for Green Bay last year? Things I think I did pretty well: nice medium distance hilly runs, great track workouts, and some really strong long runs. Not so well? The tempo runs. I never really hit my tempo groove during this training cycle. Definitely something I will focus on when training for Twin Cities starts (in three weeks!).

I do that, too for a marathon... "One week from today...." "One day from today...." I guess it helps us visualize the whole experience - especially that finish line. Have a great week...almost there!!

I can't believe we are finally here. You are going to do great. The weather looks like it is going to be sunny and 78. I'm so excited.

I find it so amazing how the "mind" starts to play with our bodies!
You'll be fine. I always find that doing some light KB work on those nervous days helps me to relax. I just concentrate on technique and form with very, very low reps.
BUT, the chocolate chip cookies sounds like a great idea too!
Best of luck in Madison! I wish I didn't have to work, I'd drive over and be a cheerleader!

Good to know I'm not the only one jumping right into training so soon after the marathon.

Looks like a good taper week. Rest up and enjoy it!!

You have a great cycle - don't even second guess yourself!
I always have good intentions of making myself something like choco chip cookies for after, but usually end up with a bag of peanut m&ms :)
Enjoy your taper week!

Chocolate chip cookies are the perfect taper food (ok, maybe not perfect, but pretty darn close!). You've done the hard work, you are ready! You're gonna be great. Enjoy the week, picture yourself crossing that finish line!
