Salvaging the Week

This week's marathon training started out okay:

Monday: 7 miles hills
Tuesday: 1 hr kettlebells (with 1 mile warmup and 1 mile cool down)
Wednesday: 1/2 hr swim, 5 mile tempo run

And then there was the black hole that was Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Wednesday night during my tempo run I just felt exhausted. I figured a rest day was in order for Thursday. I still felt worn out Thursday (and fell asleep at bowling Thursday night - whoops!). I planned on getting up early and swimming Friday morning, but turned my alarm off. And then Friday I went straight from work to judging college mock trial championships until 11:30 at night. And was back judging a second round at 9:00 Saturday morning. The rest of Saturday was spent at a birthday party and then later a benefit for one of my clients. Instead of riding on my bike last night like I planned, I went to bed at 9 p.m.

With three days of laziness, I wasn't sure how today's 16 miler would go. But it was GREAT. I felt really strong and kept a good pace. It was one of those runs where I felt like I was gaining energy throughout the run. A definite confidence builder!

I'm single parenting again until Wednesday this week (my husband is getting in one last ice fishing trip), so some workouts may have to be rearranged. Sophie and I are enjoying our girl's night - relaxing on the couch, eating ice cream and watching Cars.

Glad to hear your 16 went so well after a crazy week! Sounds like a great girl's evening- Cars, ice cream and an adorable daughter. Can't get any better than that!

How interesting that you would call them 3 days of laziness :) ...you never stopped! I'm glad the time off training was beneficial and that you had a great 16 miler (geez that's a lot of miles!)

Hi Heather,
Woo hoo, your sixteen miler went great!! I agree with Anne...you worked so hard those other three days and you still got it done! Perhaps it didn't feel the greatest but it was still something for the books:) You are going to do great come Earth Day! I have not run thirteen miles since my last half:( We have what three weeks before ED? Are you planning on using the pacers? Let me know.

Keep up the great work Heather and have a wonderful week!

I always find that after a few days rest my legs find some new gear and I often can go faster and longer! I bet those rest days were just what you needed! Brush the rest of the week off and be proud you finished strong :)

And that, my friend, is what we call marathon training as a working mother. Clearly the couple days off from exercise were just what you needed.

Sounds like your little 'laziness' refreshed you for a killer 16-miler. Well done.
I am single parenting until Wednesday too. Joy.

Sounded like you really needed some rest. It appears to be just what you needed by having such a great run.

Good luck with training and make sue you get enough rest!!!
