October Recap

Oh wait, yesterday was May 1st. Well it sure as hell felt like November 1st. Maybe it was the wind, maybe the snowflakes, or maybe the 28 degree temps, I'm just not sure . . .

I didn't end up running the half marathon in Minnetonka. As the week went on (and the gas prices kept going up), I actually made a financial based decision. This doesn't happen to me very often - usually I do what I want to do (or buy what I want to buy) and suffer guilt (and my husband's wrath) later. But I decided it wasn't a good financial decision to drive 90 some miles to a race with gas prices being so high. And I've got a big traveling month ahead - driving to Fargo for the marathon in a few weeks and then flying to Colorado for Memorial Day weekend to hang out with my brother.

So I skipped the race and decided to run my 20 miler by home instead. And then, when I started running and the wind was blasting me from every direction, I said screw it. While I need a 20 mile run, I also need to stay in love with running. And running for four hours into the (freezing cold) wind three weeks before a marathon is not the recipe for warm fuzzy runner feelings. But I ran 5 miles. And we took Sophie to see the movie Hop. And I went to bed at 8:00.

Hopefully November will be better. Oh wait, I mean May. Stupid stupid stupid weather.

Isn't it ridiculous? The wind, while not as strong, is no picnic today either. I don't blame you one bit for abbreviating that 20.

Funny thing is, I didn't even realize that something was "off" about your post title until I started reading. Must be Monday brain over here.

Gas prices are making me sick! Ugh!!

Hope the weather improves soon.

I'm sorry for laughing, but you do have a way of making your chilly situation sound funny! Spring will come soon - I'm trying to send you some of my sunshine right now...

Ha, I didn't even notice the October int he title! Duh.

I have heard from our fmaily in MN that it's been crazy there lately, in terms of weather. I keep thinking I want to move back there, but then I hear about snow in May and I think not!

This weather totally sucks. At least the rest of the week should be nicer.

That was a wise decision...like you said, staying in love with running...and that's the ultimate goal, right?

I agree, sounds like a good decision. Not only did you save money, you had some quality family time. Our temps are quickly climbing out here, so I have the oposite problem...have to run early before it gets too hot.

DOn't feel bad about not running the Lake Minnetonka half. It sucked!:) You can run in bad weather at home and not spend the money on gas. I get it and most likely would of done the same thing. Good job with the training Heather. Fargo better watch out:)

I'm sorry that we didn't get to see each other at the race but the weather was truly crappy. It's a beatiful course but probably not worth the 90 mile drive to run in the cold and wind. Hop was a good choice. Hoping to see you in Fargo. Since I'm doing the half I won't see you at the store but maybe I can catch you at the finish. Good luck and enjoy the taper!
