Collateral Damages

So I had a great race on Saturday. What I failed to mention were the negative side effects (not just of the race, but really of running in general).

1. Chafe/wound on my chest from the Gu I stuck in the strap of my sports bra. Ouch. Oh, by the way, during the race, said Gu worked its way pretty far down into my sports bra. Pretty sure anyone who saw me groping around for that Gu later got quite the show.

2. Cement legs. I tried to run at the track on Monday. After three measly 800's, I realized that I could still make it to the grocery store before I had to pick Sophie up from daycare. Done. Tuesday, I ran five miles after work. My legs? Still felt dead. We'll see how the hill workout goes tonight.

3. Bad hair. My hair looks like crap. A few weeks ago, my own mother told me she thought "there was something wrong" with my last haircut. So I scheduled another haircut, with a new person. Last weekend, my grandma said "What's wrong with your hair? It's sticking out all over the place." This immediately after I had finished styling my hair to go to a party. Seriously considering shaving my head and starting over. What color wig do you think I should get?

So there you have it. You may now commence feeling sorry for me.

A little energy gel trick I use (since I don't have cleavage) is to get a safety pin and pin them to the inside of the waist band of my shorts.

I pin my gu to the inside of my shorts like Jamoosh said...but I still chafe there too. I wonder if gu chafage is just inevetable?

sporthill makes shorts with pockets down the side of the 'leg'. i find them useful for about 4 gels

Love your blog! Finally had to comment!
I had gu issues, too. Finally found a pair of Asics shorts that have pockets in the back that hold four gu's! They are called the quad shorts 'cuz they are suppossed to make your quads look all fit - working on that part still! But they work great! Google them and you will find tons of sites selling them now - perfect for race day!
Hope the week goes better! :)

I know what you mean about those cement legs. No fun. Hang in there, take care of yourself.

yeah safety pin those bad boys or get a spibelt. sorry about your cement legs. you may need a day or two off. your hair looks good to me in the photos but i'd love to see you with red hair just for the hell of it! ;)

Just the thought of that particular chafing makes me cringe.

That chafe just sounds painful. My shorts have a pocket inside the waistband, so I never chafe, but I have had to practically turn my pants inside out to get to it a few times.

I hate cement legs. Hope your legs feel better soon.

I was told it takes a day per mile to recover. So almost two week for a half marathon for your legs to feel good again.

I pin gu to my shorts, but on the outside, they flap a bit.

You're hard-core for heading to the track so quickly after an HM!

I got RaceReady shorts to stick my Gu in - those little packets are sharp.

I hate chaffing. It must be awful on the chest. Hopefully the hair will work itself out. Have a fantastic weekend.

I have marks all over my boobs from storing random items in my bra. Not such a good idea...

I hope your runs (and hair!) start to improve.

Maybe this will brighten your day! You won my Nuun giveaway!!! Check out my post today and email me at sykes.marlene@yahoo.ca with your mailing address. :)

I hate chafe. I, myself, suffer from PermaChafe, in that it NEVER goes away. It's from my bras, though, and not my Gu. I carry the Gu in a tiny Gu-sized inner pocket in my shorts. But I do have to get damned near nekkid to wrestle it outta my shorts once they're all sweaty.
