Twitchy

My goals for October were pretty low key - recover and have fun. And while I have enjoyed not having to run any specific distance or workout, I find myself struggling to stay in the moment. I keep looking ahead, to my next marathon, to the next triathlon season . . . This week's obsession has been marathon training plans. Note to self: the next marathon training cycle doesn't start until February, calm the hell down.

I'm trying to remind myself that I have lots of good things happening right now that I can focus on. Like Saturday's double header - the Monster Dash Half Marathon at 8:30 and the Anoka Gray Ghost 5K at 12:50. That will be fun and challenging. And shouldn't be glossed over by me trying to figure out how I'll do speedwork in February.

How do you keep it in the here and now?

that is tricky tricky! especially since i am right there in that same boat with you. should be recovering and enjoying the relaxed attitude of my workouts. but instead i'm wanting to lay out every run between now and next may. calm it down ladies! sheesh. i'm using my crosstraining love: jazzercise to distract me. but there's only so much hip shaking and fist pumping a girl can take...

I'll be looking for you on Saturday. I'm hoping to be at the finish line as my race doesn't start until later. If I don't see you, know that I'm cheering for you!

Good luck with the race this weekend. That should be fun!

I too just see the future. Right now I just see that vision of Lambeau Field, but I know I have a ton of "little steps" to do before the big run! It is very hard to remember. But we can't always go balls to the wall.....it's all about making a big goal and then move backwards doing what you have to to get there!
Have fun this weekend!

I am enjoying being in the "now" ... for now! But I'm sure I'll be twitching for my next training cycle soon. I already have the plan thanks to hubs, so I am just trying not to obsess over it too much just yet.

Have fun at the double header!!

Hmmm I don't. :) I always look at head at what's and next-next. And also next-next-next. I'm a freak like that though. I'm guessing most type A runners are as well.

That does sound challenging! Have fun with it!

I've been so far removed from the racing work, it is pathetic. I used to run 5 marathons/year and I can't run more than 6 miles right now ... I'm ready for the mental institute. Haha. It's smart for you to just focus on the fun things going, especially with the holiday and your new job change...then come February, back to the program :).

I am trying to stay in the present by not putting anything on my calendar right now. I'll admit I've been caught 'shopping' on Marathonguide.com but so far the runnbatical is working!
What marathon are you doing again?

Wow, that's quite the weekend you have planned. Good luck at the half! Have fun at the 5K!

Don't worry about being twitchy. If you start your training plan now, it should be perfect by February. Ha Ha, as if there was such a thing! :)

That sounds about right! The only time I am in the now is when I am on a glorious run.

I always need a plan as well. I just finished my race yesterday and already planning what I should do the next weeks/months. I need to have the plan on the fridge and it is such a good feeling to check work outs off. That keeps me motivated :)
